The Rotman Institute will be hosting several noteworthy events this semester, on topics including research-practice integration in medicine, a look at the food systems needed to feed the world’s growing population, gendered toy marketing, and neurophilosophy. In addition to these lectures, the 2016 Rotman Annual Conference, Rethinking the Taxonomy of Psychology Conference, will be held this April.

Registration for the next upcoming event, Kirstin Borgerson: Toward an Epistemic Justification for Research-Practice Integration in Medicine, was opened this week. Kirstin Borgerson is Associate Professor at Dalhousie University, with research interests in Philosophy of Medicine, Bioethics, Feminist Philosophy, and Epistemology. Her lecture is scheduled for Friday, January 29th at 3:30 pm.

Abstract: Arguments in favor of greater research-practice integration in medicine have tended to be ethical, political, or pragmatic. But there are good epistemic reasons to pursue greater integration, and it is important to think through these reasons in order to avoid inadvertently designing new systems in ways that replicate deep and enduring problems within current systems.
